It’s the time of year when many subscriptions come up for renewal.
I’d like to thank all the people who stayed with me, paid and unpaid. It’s been an interesting journey. Bits and pieces of novels and stories that are often disjointed.
It gives a view into the way that things either gel or don’t and why there was such a long hiatus in my writing. The stories just weren’t coming together the way I’d hoped/preferred or the characters just stopped talking.
I’ve often said that I don’t really write, I transcribe. My wife said that this was particularly apparent with Last Centurion. For the week or so I was writing it (yes, it was written in a net of seven days) my personality changed. The way I walked, my diction, it was like being in the house with someone completely different.
So, the issue becomes the characters sometimes go silent. I’ve tried to write without the drive, without the muse as it were, and it’s boiled rice without salt. Not something you want to bother with. Very bland and uninteresting.
Then the characters start talking again, or more often (alas) new characters start talking, telling their new stories…
And I transcribe.
For those wondering what happened to Mike Truesdale and the gang, that’s resolved. I’ll start working in that world again soon. Basically, I’d built a world I for once didn’t want to completely destroy. Destroy the Society, yes. Destroy the world, no.
Once I realized I just didn’t have to (for a change) it resolved.
We’ll be getting back to that world soon.
As to Troy, Posleen, etc. Maybe one day. (Though not Empire of Man. David’s done with that one and it’s his universe.) Depends on the characters. (The two I’d most like to get back to are Black Tide and Troy but we’ll see.)
So, again, thank you very much for sticking with me through this. As I’ve alluded I’m not doing it to pay for my vacation home in Maui.
And I’m glad you’re enjoying the stories.
Now for the next installment…
I'm thrilled you gave us a bit more Troy.
Thank you for sharing the journey with us. It’s been so much fun to see all the “old friends” again. Can’t wait to see where we go from here!
