The massive wave came on relentless. The Sound narrowed at several distinct points. These were often called points or ‘necks’ in the local vernacular.
Shippan Point, Connecticut and Eatons Neck disappeared under a tidal wave of water and were essentially ripped away at more or less the same moment. Cahumsett State Park was next and would never be seen again. Oyster Bay flooded all the way to the Cold Springs subway station, three miles inland.
