CHAPTER 18
Firefighting
“Bert,” Mike said as he boarded the helo.
“Mike,” Puckett said, shaking his head. “You sure about this?”
“I’ve got clearance from my dad,” Mike said. “Where are we going?”
“Here,” Bert said, pointing to a spot northeast of the mine. “Winds are shifting it northeast. I’ll tell you… Right now, it’s on your land. That’s bad and it’s spreading fast. But the problem is it’s headed for the Kootenai. Gets onto national forest land and the Forest Service is going to try to pin it on your negligence.”
“Aware,” Mike said, drily. “Just as I’m aware it was deliberately set.”
“That’s…” Bert said.
“My people are tracking the people who set it,” Mike said. “It was antifa types. When we’re done fighting it, you and I are going to go to the ignition point along with the fire service inspector and we’re going to document everything. There will be lawsuits. It has to be properly documented.”
“Understood,” Bert said.
