First taste is free.

:-)

I'm going to publish the first two chapters, which are MUCH slower, today probably. But they'll be behind the paywall. I need to figure out how to thread them together.

Dude, I subscribed before I even started reading. Keeping track on FB was too messed up, I didn't want to miss any of it.

Also, I've seen other authors (admittedly on that other patronage site) link their stories together using hashtags. Don't know if that works here, though.

Using your real name on here? I guess that's going to be a thing now, what with you writing as well.

Yep, first full length novel comes out on the 2nd of April. It should be interesting to see how it's received.

Not sure I'm "3", probably more like 3-hundy, but glad to be subbed and loved this first chapter! Politically incorrect is better!

I'm glad to be back to writing.

I'll admit it was Lydia Sherrer who got me back at the keyboard. She was pissed about how little I'd contributed on the last collab and was text screaming at me 'I WANT MORE JOHN! EVERYBODY WANTS MORE JOHN!''

But what it seemed to me was everybody wanted more Posleen. Everybody wanted more Troy. Everybody wanted more exploding space ships and I just wasn't in an exploding space ship headspace. This stuff had been filling my headspace and I knew it was only tangent to my wheelhouse. So, I'd been putting it off. All sorts of characters were talking to me and I kept telling them 'This isn't what people want!' In one case, there was a great character that popped up and told me his story. I knew I couldn't write it because it was a black character in the ghetto. He was pissed that I wouldn't tell his story.

Maybe with Substack, someday I will.

Anyway, these are the characters that want their story told. I just tell it.

If Mike O'Neal would turn up and tell me the rest of the story in Aldenata I'd write it.

Well, while I personally confess that I would adore more of Troy, I also realize that if it ain't happening in your head, then it ain't happening *shrugs*

Nevertheless, if THIS is what your headspace is offering, I will grab on to it with my greedy, grabby little hands, hug it tightly to my sadly too-generous bosom (hey, I'm almost 60, I get to talk like that), obsessively pet it, and call it George. ;-)

More John Ringo writing is NEVER to be unappreciated! LOL

There will probably be more Troy. Toni is a big fan and I like it. I have part of a book written and ideas for more 'stuff'. But it's not the critical mass I need.

So the general thought is to bring in a pinch hitter. The problem is finding the person with the right feel for the universe and the writing ability.

That's being worked on.

Ah! How delightful to know that Troy isn't dead ;-)

I'm very fond of Larry Correia as well, and I know he detests readers who think they get to tell him what to write and when - I assume you're the same. So, I will remind myself that I *did* - once - pray for patience, and shall try to be respectful of your time and headspace.

Just know that the greedy, grabby hands are ready to immediately seize upon Troy whenever you get around to it. In the meantime, I'm really liking what you have here, even if my coffee bill is likely to triple LOL

I do TRY to be a polite fan; do please excuse me if I get too enthusiastic.

Brother, you could right an instruction manual on the servicing of the LAV on an aircraft and I'd pay for it and read it. Listen to the stories and write em. They'll sell. Don't really think what other people want should matter. Paint your canvas. If people don't like it? Fuck em.

Just my 2cents.

I'd love to see more of any of your series (except maybe the council, haven't been able to get through that one), but I'm just as happy to explore new places with you too. Glad Lydia yelled at you. ;) Any chance there's some more of the princess of wands series kicking around in your noggin?

"Camping"? May I please ask how that's derived?

Expand full comment
Marcus Y's avatar

Gaming term. A "camper" is someone who picks a spot and stays there, killing any enemy who walks through their killing field. Typically, campers pick useless spots and completely fail to help their team win.

Hi John Ringo. I have a quick question, On MHI Sinners, what did you mean when MI6 had to burn a cell when dealing with the piru? Also, Will you write any more MHI?

Expand full comment
Kelly Ludwig's avatar

My understanding (& I could be very wrong) - MI6 had to use an undercover/covert team to acquire the alexandrite and in doing that they became known to the Russians/Soviets

So if anyone see this, I'm having trouble navigating around Substack.

How does the chat function work? Can anyone start a conversation or chat.

If I wanted to chat or ask a general question about Ringo's Tavern how would one go about doing that?

Expand full comment
Clarke's avatar

John, right on the front of the substack landing page for Ringo’s Tavern is a chat icon. It’s not been used much and John has not visited / in not active in it. Other tavern members might respond. Maybe John will become active here, I think we all would like that.
